I have been trading with AMTD and DLJ DIRECT for 3 years now.
They both have problems at times that's why I have 2 accounts.
Both systems have improved since the beta testing a couple of years
ago.My ISP was major problem at one time and I was blaming DLJ
or AMTD FOR DELAYS. Compared to the old days with A G Edwards
both of these services are a great improvement!

Hi I moved over from A.G.E. also. I talked to Ameritrade today, their business has exploded, imagine that'
when everyone is worried about business and profits of other
companies, this business is booming the more volatile the market gets.
They had a normal run of about 22000 shares perday and the
last two days they did over 35000 per. I believe that would
overwhelm any system. But, the important thing, is if the
business is this good now with only a couple million on line
investors and traders, where will it be when the servers and
isps have solved the log jam problem. The market is 5 times
bigger than it is now, talk about a growth opportunity. Their
move to market share thru ads has been a sharp strategy.
All that said, the market makers and big money boys know this
also and will attempt to buy it as cheap as they can, just keep
your powder dry take advantage of the market and manipulations
to build a low cost portfolio. It offers options now, and that
should attract more players. The delays are nothing compared to
the big picture, the technology will come. Meanwhile, I havent
had any problem getting thru on the phone with a max 3-5 min
in the busiest times.....Yankee Gil

Toni,
I too will give Ameritrade another chance, because they at least answered all of my e-mail promptly, and likewise were courteous and helpful on the telephone. As you said,it is a hassle switching brokers.I had a helluva time calculating last years taxes because I had three separate brokerage accounts. Now I only use Ameritrade and it makes things much easier for me.I also download my Ameritrade account information directly into Quicken 98,so I will be ready for Uncle Sam when tax-time rolls around.Good luck.
