Hello Bob,

I would like to echo your thoughts. The chart patterns of all recent corrections (except for the one in 1994) bear striking resemblances.
You would note, also, that the decline phase and recovery phase share an element of symmetry too.

Regards,
Ibexx

Bob.. Thanks for pointing out the percentage changes. The October 1997 low on the NASDAQ was successfully tested a couple of times. The low earlier in the 1977 was also tested, so if it's similar this time we will get another chance at cheaper prices. This low low came and went so quickly I only had time to make a few buys. The support on the NASDAQ around 1465 seems reasonably strong, and there is also some support (IMHO, weaker) for the broad averages. Just a wild guess of course, but I think there's about a 60% chance of the lows holding , especially if there isn't any really bad news. sometimes the market ignores bad news, but I don't think this is one of them...:-)
good investing

Bob-- Your percentages are correct, however if one compares NEW LOWS, we have hundreds more this year as compared to 1997. This is a bad sign.

Secondly, The earnings for many companies have worsened considerably since October 97.

And probably most important, the mood on the street has grown quite bearish. I think it's going to get real nasty before it gets better. I wish I was wrong, but I don't think so. Good Luck.

OTOT..Well we got the test of the low that I expected and it held (more or less) This time I was quicker on the trigger and picked up some shares very close to the bottom. There was short covering and institutional buying at the close which bumped prices off the bottom. I'm especially pleased to note that this happened despite the bad news from Latin America. Whatever happens, I think it's safe to say the bear is at least half over.
