3Com and Siemens are in the large POS hardware networking. The key to POS is response time... being able to verify and approve a transaction to meet Interac standards. IVC is primarily a manufacturer of the POS terminals. The advancement of 3COM and Siemens into the POS networking arena will be complementary (not competitive) to IVC's business. IVC is the sort of target that companies like Siemens would be interested to buy to gain further into the POS industry. BTW, there is an interesting 4 page supplement in the Financial Post today on "smart cards". Smart cards is the growth area for Y2K onwards, and guess who will be there to sell the terminals to the banks for the thousands of small and large retailers!
