Tandy's RadioShack posts higher sales
September 3, 1998 08:56 AM

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept 3 (Reuters) - Tandy Corp. said on Thursday that sales at its RadioShack division increased 15 percent in August to $284.8 million from $248.6 million last year and comparable stores sales increased 15 percent when compared with the prior year period.

"RadioShack's unit sales exceeded plan by over 50 percent," RadioShack President and Tandy Corp Chief Executive Officer-elect Len Roberts said.

Roberts cited the Compaq Computer Corp. CPQ Compaq Creative Learning Series computer sale and promotions of its wireless products as a driver of sales gains.

Tandy said Computer City was no longer part of the corporation after August 31, 1998. For its last month of operation, total sales were $141.3 million, a decrease of 12 percent when compared with August 1997.
