BIG Boys got to buy the left overs of the S&Ls at bargain prices after the Gov took all the losses and did a disguised charge to the tax payers. People who didn't lose money directly have no idea of what it's costing them indirectly.

A friend who is a smart programmer but does not pay attention
to markets said: "I don't worry about the stock market because
I don't have any individual stocks. I just have my retirement
money in some mutual funds." I saw the wheels start turning when I
said "but they own stocks, so when the market is down so are
they and your retirement". <sigh>
