I don't really have a well reasoned interpretation and not much knowledge on this. Perhaps it was just a fluke with MM's jumping in or more to the point out of the action. I generally interpret large spreads as indecision by MM's and buyers/sellers. With the high volume, it doesn't seem like indecision by buyers and sellers so perhaps it is the MM's. It also may suggest that some of these MM's have positions rather than just making money on the thread so they may be reluctant to unwind these positions long or short.
