Sure, but would a company facing that kind of challenge be worth 17 times sales and over 50 times earnings?

You are right about ppl continuing with the MSFT desktop regardless of the outcome. But the part that would hurt MSFT continued unreasonable growth rate would be that its competitors in several other technologies would actually have a chance to compete since MSFT would not crush them with unfair monopolist practices. It would not be as easy for MSFT to co-ordinate efforts to pull off these current anti-trust activities that amost everyone in the industry knows they are practicing.

It would be good for the entire industry if the MSFT breakup happened. And MSFT could continue to produce industry marketshare leading desktop solutions.
