"Co-option" is not an acceptable answer: the fact that the people had their revolution taken away from them does not mean they didn't revolt in the first place. Berlin, Dostoyevsky, and Solzhenitsyn have much to say on the topic of revolt and acquiescence, but I'd hate to impinge on your lecture. :-) P.
