G'day all - dear Tim, yes, the present phenomenon of the Alpha Wolf [or Gorilla] is a formidable force. However, the telecom industry landscape is shifting rapidly. I mean, by no means I am dissing CSCO or LU. Both are formidable cos with strong leaders. However, noone has the lock yet [although allegedly in a recent commercial, CSCO has suggested it has a lock on the internet segment.] So, BAY+NT will have a good chance. The new co has the depth, the breadth, the pocket and both geographic and product strongholds.

I am too chicken to short [besides, my portfolio has been battered <sg>,] but I think LU bulls should be cautious. Don't get me wrong, LU is a great co. It has great mgt and technology rich, not to mention deep pocket. However, Oct is the time when the final tie to the old Ma Bell is severe. LU will no doubt go shopping with its paper currency - many people think in a big way. Therefore, the hedgers will likely to do the short-the-acquirer and long-the acquiree routine. Just my 2c

best, Bosco
