I think any study of stock price behaviors would show that stock prices always LEAD and anticipate rather than follow economic realities.

So that headline is outright incorrect. Normally stock prices would decline ahead of the any negative economic news coming out. That is what makes stock investing so difficult and dangerous. Of course sometimes it turns out to be a false alarm. However I believe Marty Zweig makes a very convincing case based on economic background why it is prudent to be super cautious at this time.
