Headline: Glenayre Introduces Paging Transmitter For European Market

======================================================================
Vodafone the First Carrier to Install VHF Transmitter

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Glenayre today introduced the
latest addition to its successful T8000 series of high-speed paging
transmitters. The GL-T8411E operates on the VHF paging band and is designed
specifically to the requirements of the European market. It supports all the
popular paging protocols in use in Europe, including POCSAG, FLEX and ERMES.
Every GL-T8411 also supports ReFLEX25.
Vodafone Paging Ltd. of England is the first paging carrier to adopt the
GL-T8411E. The company is preparing to install more than 400 units throughout
its nationwide paging network, which provides alphanumeric and numeric service
to England, Wales and Scotland. Additional GL-C2000 series controllers will
also be installed as part of Vodafone's Glenayre system.
Glenayre's GL-T8000 series transmitters provide a highly accurate paging
signal and deliver superior performance at extreme temperatures, making them
the industry standard for high-speed FLEX and ERMES applications. The GL-
T8411E (100-200 watts) builds on this strength by offering a more compact and
rugged package designed to reduce the need for external equipment and
associated interfaces. Additional enhancements allow for easy maintenance
access of the transmitter. A 125-watt version will be available later this
year.
For over 30 years, Glenayre Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:GEMS) has been
developing leading edge personal telecommunication systems. Supplying products
for both one and two-way paging networks, Glenayre also offers the industry's
premiere migration solution from one-way systems to two-way functionality.
With over 2,000 employees and with products installed in over 100 countries,
Glenayre's net sales exceeded $451 million in 1997. Additional information
