isoman,

And just what does this have to do with "Thread" morons?

Just kidding, I thoroughly enjoyed the post. I had heard of the guy that attached a rocket to his car and was found in the cliff. If I remember correctly, he was found 30 feet above grade in the side of the cliff.

Anyhow, although as you said, "some will find it morbid", I found it hilarious and appreciate the post.

Have fun,
Phil

Isoman, LOL, anything to do with morons is appropriate here.

Additional info for number 12:

San Anselmo man died yesterday when he hit a lift tower at the Mammoth Mountain ski area while riding down the slope on a foam pad, authorities said. Matthew David Hubal, 22, was probably pretty fast,'' said Donnelly.

I read this somewhere else , the foam pad was actually a safety feature that he had removed from the lift tower that he smashed into.

isoman,

We all have to go sometime. Hopefully my death will not be as the result of some idiotic action that I took. If I do wind up rocketing into the side of the mountain, I hope that my fellow thread morons will get a good laugh over it, and hopefully come up with some really good eulogies - perhaps something along the lines of Now that guy was a real moron.

I heard the story about the JATO a while back - a tragic tale of moronisity operating at the highest level. But it is likely just an urban legend - officialdarwinawards.com

They have lots of stories like this - some true, some unconfirmed, some myth.

Not all of the stories are "death-related" - some of them even offer financial advice that might be of interest to the SI community. These are classic. But the funny thing about the foam pad at the ski area was that they stole the foam pad off the pole so they could slide down the ski hill in the middle of the night, and managed to crash into the same pole, now unprotected by the pad on which they rode. Really ironic.
