Mike, from now on, a day when Dow is down only 0.5% is a good, strong, bullish day -g-

MB:

Another question for the more experienced mind.

When the Hong Kong market collapsed last yr, many brokerages and investment banks went under with it.

Some put option holders had trouble cashing in. I understand Put sellers in US are often hedged themselves by shorting the underlying stock. And there is the option clearing co. Will there be enough money to handle all our put contracts?

Also, many individual brokerage margin acct were suspended or even wiped out, since the brokerages suddenly went out of business and had secretly sold margin securities to cover the firms' own debts.

Are these events likely in the US?

heaven forbid your mind should be open
Open to what, Mike? Here is your statement:
Yup, capitalism is great. It took Communism 70 years to destroy the Soviet Union. It only took capitalism 10 years to do the same to Russia and Asia. -g- And soon the US of A.
It was this statement that made me lose any respect I might have had for your reasoning. I did not see any sign of it being in jest. You seem to have quite a good reputation on this board, as evidenced by this thread. After reading the above statement, I don't know why.
