dg, mu is one of the low cost producers. noody ever contested that - or at least i'm not aware of it. being THE low cost producer is something else altogether ;-)

as for the koreans not having the funds to compete... not true. did you hear the latest merger? mu/txn have been bumped from the number one producer spot before they even got there ;-)

as for the dram biz being h*ll, with that we agree. i can't think of any other major company in the world with as much exposure to dram as a % of total biz as mu. that is why i don't see them lasting with the big boys.

even if they do, and they might, after 4 years of boom beyond all imagination being wiped out by 3 bad qs, the long term upside looks weak anyway.
