Rare, you'll like this one:

"I usually put Cl ipper (Nasdaq:CFIMX - news) near the top of any "all-weather" list. It's designed to do better than most when the bear starts stirring, and pretty well when the bulls are running. Co-managers Michael Sandler and Jim Gipson have certainly seen all kinds of markets -- and done well in most. In three-, five- and 10-year time periods, they beat most of their peers, not far behind the broader market index.

Since its 1984 inception, the experienced value investors have steered Clipper, holding fast to a rigorous stock selection process throughout. Often, that has meant the two Cs for Clipper: contrarian plays and cash. The no-load has had plenty of both recently, taking a big stake in Philip Morris (NYSE:MO - news) , and carrying more than 40% in the green stuff. (The last time they had such a huge cash stake was right before Black Monday.) All of which translates into a lackluster 6% return year-to-date, but could serve Clipper and its shareholders if the market keeps tumbling."

Another piece of the puzzle falls into place for MO. The settlement seems to be moving ahead despite the recent drop outs. I'm not at all surprised that MO agreed to the advertising and marketing restrictions either. Once this is settled, all eyes will be on Justice's appeal of the recent FDA ruling in favor of tobacco, IMO. I will be watching that case very closely.
