Suppose you could argue buffer length, John, but it's probabably fortuitious. The 2000/dir format adds xmaster to the master and emaster records that qp relies on.

up by symbols of a different length or data packets of varying size.)

No problems here. I output ~4K symbols daily many of which are multiple dirs with 255 symbols with no problems.
