Am no expect in economics but I think the strenghing or weaking of US dollar vs yen will do little in regard to US trade deficit since many Japanese companies either produce their product in the US(especially cars) or are producing their products in other countries(beside Japan). I think US, Japan, Certain Western Europe Countries compete more on R&D and Service instead of manufactoring costs. They and several other countries I think will survive the crises alot better. The ones that will really suffer I think are the ones that compete directly on manufactoring costs since each one will lower it's money(weither they want to or not) again and again until there is virturally no profit margin left. Which other countries do you think can join US, Japan and Western Europe in the Information focused ecomony vs Manufactoring economy? Singapore? Isreal? Taiwan? Canada? In addition how do you think commodities based countries will fare in the future?
