I've been following Mister Burke on and off for over two years. I got started on his commentary even before the existence of the "Ask Michael Burke" thread, back when he was an inhabitant of the Micron thread (and others).

I offer the following observations about Michael:

1. He is definitely bearish, but he is not a perma-bear. In fact he has discussed many long positions in various issues over the years. More of a contrarian than anything else.

2. His best performers do seem to be bear plays -- always put options assumed in a system of "thirds". He had good calls on Micron, the chip sector in general, Compaq, Gateway, and the PC sector in general.

3. Michael, although willing to debate issues with you, isn't really open to outside opinions. He forms his own and that's that.

4. He's knowledge about market topics but not especially so on technical subjects. You or Stitch would know far more in those areas. I daresay LK would be a better finance/accounting sleuth. Mark would be a better visionary.

That said, if you have the time and inclination he's often got interesting and sometimes surprising things to say.
