Thean...here are a few "ingredients" to look for in a gold company.

1.Size(is it a "penny" gold, junior or senior. Size is determined by amount of yearly production in ozs. and know reserves)
2. Cost of production per oz. If it cosys a co. $200 to produce an oz., then obviously every $ higher price is more profit. The ave. cost world wide id estimated at $275/oz. to produce(ballpark#)
3. Hedge program
4. Debt

I would add HM to the list. it is a senior with a German investor buying 25 million shares(which he hasn't finished buying yet)

Thean:

The natural gas sector has an upside potential equal to that of oils (well, almost<G> - barring some dramatic shift in the geo-politcal climate). But it has less downside risk, at present. Since more than half of the U.S. production comes from the Gulf area, which is subject to hurricanes (which are projected to be more frequent and/or more powerful this season, due to La Nina). It's now hurricane season, and rigs are required by law to shut down during one, placing constraints on production. Tropical Storm Earl (now a Class I hurricane) started a rise in natural gas futures on Monday; today, figures were released that reflected a smaller-than-expected increase in supplies...so the increased prices will probably hold...and the season is just beginning. La Nina is also supposed to cause a colder winter than usual. Additionally, natural gas is not subject to foreign pricing pressure. So, all things considered, it looks like a good bet, IMHO.

I've enjoyed the thread, Merritt

Thean, I am in the middle of reading this post and stopped to check indicators . . .

Have to say this market is something . . .

advs/decl (shares) 50/50 with dn vol less than up vol.
the only indexes up are oil and gold
wouldn't someone initially sell on strength here in those markets?

With new rumor hints on the sthlick-meister, all h--- will break loose.

Now I have finished your post (2526) and your sentiments are the same as mine. I've been watching ASA, NEM and ABX for the past 3 days, gritting my teeth!

Boy, that trigger finger does get itchy<g>
It's a good thing that I've had the oil experience.
