You guys are really dumb, or to be politically correct I guess I should say "intellectually challenged". First of all, with regards to locale etc, companies cant just move out of town and continue to do business as usual. The whole reason we have any high tech industry at all is because there are certain geographic regions in the country where a few companies are, and a climate exists where people can leave these established companies and start new ones, etc. Because of the huge amt of money that these new industries generate, BY DEFINITION these are going to be very expensive places to live. So, if we took your advice and all these companies just "moved" we would lose the entrepreneurial flavor of any one area and that would be it. So, your very simplistic solution to the cost of living in my area is WRONG.

Secondly, with regards to family values etc. I personally think a stay at home mom or dad is not the best thing for the kids anyway. Kids should see both of their parents have a sense of accomplishment that comes from work. So the family values premise is way off base just in general irrespective of the financial obligations.

But with regards to finances, if you want to send your kids to say, MIT it will cost about $200K for 2 kids. Even if you do send your kids to public school its going to be hard to save that $$$ so eventually you will need to come up with some money regardless of the personal choices you make about your own cost of living while kids are small.
