Some commentators have stated that the recent "rebound" of the yen versus the dollar was attributable to the fact that many hedge funds -who had shorted the yen- were buying yens to take their profits and close out their positions so they could cover losses elsewhere (i.e. russia. makes ense to me because I otherwise see absolutely no reason for the recent rebound in the yen since Japan has done diddly squat about their problems except more talk.
would love to be a fly on the wall during rubin's meeting with japanese mof today....
