I bet this reply gets inserted into the middle of the "Holy sh** it blew up and we lost 12 satellites" thread. Maybe it will be a nice break (by the way, I agree completely about the Holy sh** - but it will all work out in the end). In fact, I just bought back in today after being lucky enough to have sold all my stocks 2 months ago to buy a new house prior to the meltdown. Sometimes you catch a break.

To get to the point. I know LockMart built the I* bus, and there is no question Lockheed knows how to build satellites. I did not know that Allied was the wheel vendor, but I must say they have a good reputation in the reaction wheel/CMG world (at least the former Bendix who I believe built the wheels does).

What I think is that Motorola is very good at a lot of things and has a proven track record in certain areas, but satellite prime contracting and integration is definitely not one of them. On the other hand, Loral is one of the top 3 in the world at this which from my skewed perspective gives G* a leg up from the bus working, hardware not failing perspective.

I also think that the I* telephony software is very complicated and would be difficult for any group on the planet to make work right. I am pretty much up to speed on what is going on with the I* vs. G* telephony software and being an advocate of the "Keep It Simple Stupid" school I know where I am placing my bets.

I won't babble on any longer, but I'm betting on G* by 30 lengths. However, if another Zenit blows up... Maybe they should only put 6 or 8 eggs in that basket next time.
Strictly FWIW,
Jeffly
