Pierre - To torture an analogy, in the investment ocean where, it seems to me, big fish regularly devour little fish, I like knowing there are sharks patrolling who feast on big fish. Helps keep them honest, I think.

The problem is lawyers do not produce money, nor in this case are any people punished. After the suit everything will be as it was before - no one will lose their jobs, no one will go to jail, ... - but the company will be out $50M(?) most of which goes to Lerach and other lawyers. Also, virtuousness is no guaranteee against future suits. If they punished everybody for theft whether they did anything or not, the incentive against crime drops to nil - if you're going to be punished anyway, why not do something to deserve it?

I wonder if anybody has ever considered putting together a shareholder suit against Lerach for stealing their wealth. It would probably be a challenge, if not impossible, to find a legal basis for it, but it would certainly be fun.
