Judy..Oh I knew that. I had e-mailed some traders yesterday about 2:45 p.m. asking them what they thought. THESE WERE DAYTRADERS/SWING TRADERS LIKE ME.. I understand that for a longer time hold it is not a wise trade. My point was that even daytraders who have pre-determined rules are sometimes wrong.

Earnings Plays for this quarter: Mid-September to End of October:

This weekend I'll start researching the earnings plays for Mid-September. I hope to start on early October's earnings plays as well. I expect there to be many possible trades both long and short, but I will concentrate on the long side because of the sheer mass (8,000) of companies reporting. I also expect that a good earnings report will be rewarded handsomely. October, January, April, and July have always been the most lucrative months for me (Except for October 1997 which was due to circumstances beyond my control). I don't expect this earnings season to be any different.

I also agree with Options Jerry, however, in his analysis that there will be many shorting opportunities for companies that will pre-report shortfalls. We will be on top of that as well. I'm still getting lots of e-mail asking me to explain 'earnings plays' so I'll just direct you to the Market Gems Newsletter Archives on our website: marketgems.com so you can look through the 20 or so newsletters that have been published on the website in the past year.

Also marketgems.com for some articles taken from this thread and some other guidelines. I'll be updating the education files this weekend.
