3 computer companies take on Intel

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Three big computer companies are seizing
the initiative by asking Intel (INTC) to endorse their new circuitry design that could double the speed of personal computers and servers, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday. Compaq Computer (CPQ),
Hewlett-Packard (HWP) and IBM (IBM) are trying to get Intel to
endorse the concept over an Intel design for the next generation PCI bus.

If the three companies are successful, it could give them an advantage
over other companies like Dell Computer (DELL).
