There are too many competing products between Sun and IBM. It wouldnt be worth the huge acquisition costs for IBM to gain a custodial rights to Java - which is basically openly available to all OEMs anyays.

Let me pass the question on to you... If IBM acquired Sun then what would they do with the Sun Sparc hardware, Sun's Solaris, Sun NetManger platform? IBM has strong competing products in each of these areas.

So I would say that there is little for IBM to gain on this acquisition.
