The well started to produce water instead of oil.

There's a helluva lot more water than there is oil. Oil is lighter than water. So what you try to do is dunk the straw so it hits the oil structure _above the oil/water cut. Otherwise, your well will just produce water.

Hopefully this 3-D shoot will show what the structure really looks like down there and they can salvage the Estero #3. Rod correct me if I'm wrong, but they can try recompleting it higher, or even sidetracking it (ie, re-drillling the lower portion of the well, except at a slightly different angle and toward a different down-hole location).
