Little item in my local paper today said that this year's potato crop had pretty much failed in Russia due to poor weather. Since potatoes - especially those grown in little family plots - are what the average Joe survives on cause he can't afford the food in the stores, the implication is pretty grim.

Basically means there is the potential for mass starvation.
