Good points. From your post, perhaps if LSI wants to be the winner in 5 years they not only need the designers and cells, but they also need to be able to be a top tier manufacturer, at least TSMC/UMC level, if not IBM's or Intel's level.

Boy, do wish VLSI will just fold and merge right in. Can probably lay off at least half of VLSI's head count right there - that's synergy!

As for IDT, I'm not sure. Taking on INTC is tough, rather leave that for somebody like IBM or Colonel Sanders. But there should be a lot of opportunities for StrongARM etc.

PS, my ramblings on sub-micron shortage and Koreans were just talking out loud. My investment model for the next 3 years is based on that scenario. That's why I like MU too. If there are any flaws in model, sure hope somebody would point it out now.
