There was an article in the NY times a couple days ago covering that very subject. Says it's not true and gave evidence. Will try to locate and post.

re airlines... fleets of UAL AMR and Delta are not old. may appear overpriced but remember, until recently, airlines didn't make money book wise..

I hate to butt in, but look at Southwest (LUV). They have the youngest fleet in the business and the most stable labor relations of all them.
Only had one quarter in their history that was not positive. If the gut sucking congress ever repeals the Wright amendment, the rest of the carriers better get a tight hold on their a** (G). As the MythMan says, the airlines have to be printing money with low fuel, solid bookings etc. I have flown LUV many times and their damn planes are always full. Person wont hit a home run wit SW but it is a steady, solid performer. JMHO.
