Dell is cooking up a smokescreen in order to hide the real simple fact. If you can double your sales under a 10% hit on currency, it isn't even significant to bother about local fab. Let's say you can only increase sales 10% on a currency hit of 10%, you are establishing presence which will pay off big time when the currency swing is 20% in your favor. But you don't care about that since presence was worth 200% increase in sales. You have to talk to Teitmeyer to get any truth out of leaders in the modern era. They're excuse is that they have lots of poor people to protect. The only protection they're fishing for is protection from competition. That's what Dell is after in his overtures to China, an exclusive deal.

ATHM has deals going in Britain, Germany, Japan. There's something big developing in Mexico? or some Latin American country. India is also putting together an ATHM project. There are others. They're in Yahoo's news listing. It really doesn't matter because foreign presence isn't meaningful until ATHM has something meaningful here. They don't have that yet and in spite of the various comments about how this company is a no brainer, it is becoming a no brainer to hold given the paucity of progress on any front. That is, one has no brains to keep on holding. Maybe some investors get all juiced in their pants about 200k subscribers. It took Earthlink one month to accomplish that. You say they are doing their thing in the SF Bay Area, well, I sure can't find any evidence that that is happening. The fall is here but the roll-out is in TCI's pocket. TCI is still waiting for more couch potatoes to go for the 500 - 600 channels premium before they live up to their promises.

No doubt China is where to be. They don't have all the important protections in place that makes us Americans such efficient competitors. That means that ATHM might be able to get pure fiber pulled and be able to deliver at 30 mbps at a dropdown. And get it done before 2000.

Forgot. Singapore One is still happening. MSFT's part is only to provide NT servers for collocation with Sun's.

It is hard to get info about this company even if you have good contacts and sources. There is nothing from my sources about T's plans or TCI's plans, or T's plans for TCI. It seems that all the principals are waiting for something to happen. Such forward looking management. They deserve double salaries.
