Intra-day the RTS index went below what I
thought might be the bottom made that Thursday the RTS index dropped 17% but closed up. I still think around 60 is the bottom to the RTS index and we may never see the RTS index close below it.

Since I'm in a forecasting mood I think Russian stocks have huge potential (this is IMHO, so don't go bet the farm or anything).
I am looking for a minimum of 7X from these levels before I sell. I fully expect that 10X within 2 years is possible. Long term as Vi has pointed out they could go to GNP levels or about 60X.

Notice that all of a sudden the dollar is weak and the U.S. stock market isn't doing very good. We could see a pendulum swing back to asia and the emerging markets. This is especially true if oil rebounds sharply (OPEC). The economic meltdowns in asia and Russia are forecast to last a while, but markets tend to rise before economies do.
Well that is it. I know some people will want to pick my forecasts apart (PT where are you), but hey I would love some discussion of different viewpoints.

Any opinion in investing in Emerging Market Debt.(Through Mutual Funds)? Know it's risky but the return can also be great, or do you think still too early? Was looking through back issues of Mutual Fund(Magazine) and saw an article about Emerging Market Debt. funds earning 70% returns for the year(Dec 1996 Issue) since they were able to buy the debt. cheaply doing the Mexico troubles. This time though the problems are much larger though(many more countries). Any thoughts?

John

Rob,

<<O.K. here is my predictions about Russia:>>

you're either very brave, or very foolhardy. IMO, of course.

For your predictions to come true, you've gotta roll a long string of 7s. I suppose it's possible ...

The world financial system is in grave danger ... I wouldn't stick my neck out anywhere until I see signs of a bottom.
