I think your "question" is 110% relevant.

The Asian slow down and currency devaluations, coupled with a HUGE GLUT in DRAM supply, hard disk supply and monitors, floppies, etc. has driven DOWN the cost of all components by 50% to 80% - FAR more than the cost of the CPUs that go into PCs.

Of course, Cyrix/NSM has been rather clever at selling CPUs well below their costs ($50) and losing money hand over fist.

AMD has done nearly the same.
