Thanks cc,

When Michelle's "studies" post came out I realized there was no hope of her ever coming to grips with anything. She has lost any credibility she ever hoped to have. Anyone who believes that as a general rule kids are better off without either one of their parents is completely wacko. There are exceptions to every rule, but in most cases, parents need to guide their kids in everyday life. Not some baby sitter or day care person. To me, it's just a way of not having to deal with the responsibility of being a parent. Now, let me clarify this. There are many people who can't raise their kids fulltime. Single parents and households where both parents have to work. I understand this. But really, a "study" that says kids are better off away from their parents. Probably done by a lazy, selfish parent. Michelle must not be a parent. My apologies if she is. My condolences to her child also. I'm sure Chelsea can attest that BC is not an ideal parental role model.

Sorry for the long post, but I appreciate your comeback to MH. It's also forecast to be 105ø+ here. Yesterday it hit 107ø. I'm ready for fall and winter. Have a good Labor Day weekend.

cc,

OK a few points. First of all I have said on numerous occasions that I dont consider myself a liberal. If you people here want to call me a liberal thats fine, I really dont care. But I certainly am not "trying hard to be one".

The original point of this discussion was the "family values" platform that the republicans have and why I think it is stupid. Let me reiterate that yes, I think it is stupid, and one reason it is stupid is based on the economic realities that I see around me, where it is unlikely that you could live on one salary even if you wanted to.

Im not going to get into here with the people that think that "moving" is the answer to the cost of living dilemma in the high tech work centers. That is so rediculous it doesnt even merit a response. I will say though, that is Oracle and Cisco didnt feel it was absolutely necessary to be located here they would not be here. This is a certainty. They could do business almost anywhere else in the country at a fraction of the price of here. Try to get a hotel room here and youll see what I mean.

With regards to working vs. non working parents, well I will admit that I dont have much exposure to stay at home anybodys (except for me right now, but thats because Im sick). It seems like a pretty boring way to live. I cant imagine not having a vocation. But based on what I hear on this thread (which was supposed to be moderate but has turned into another right wing beehive) people here feel that say, Chelsea Clinton got a bad deal with the family she has (forget the scandal for a moment Im just talking generalities), whereas I believe she will turn out to be very successful based on her mother as role model. So we'll just have to agree to disagree.
