RE: Microsoft and "taste" A giant monument to that colossal tastelessness and conspicuous, voracious consumption sprawls along the picturesque shore of beautiful Lake Washington. Tony, have you ever been in Seattle? If you ever get here, be sure to go see "the house." It gives one "an object to think with" --- that wonderful concept from MIT's Seymour Pappert, creator of Turtle Logo (the ultimate object to think with . ------------------ Yet, despite my own colossal distaste for many aspects of the Microsoft steam-roller, in fairness I have to mention two bugs I spotted in reading the above message. Bill DID finally "get a date." He's married, and they have a kid. (I'm waiting to see how he deals with THIS. <G>) And "There is no one at MS that is innovative." Surely, THAT is not true. They hire lots of young, bright graduates who haven't got a life yet and are willing to devote most of their time to the company for a bunch of years. (If they DO have a life, long shorts-and-sneaker-clad work days and nights will put a big squeeze on it.) Some, certainly, do good, innovative work while at Microsoft. Many, the so-called Microsoft Millionaires, retire young to implement dreams that have been of great benefit to the Pacific Northwest. The "Microsoft Myth," and the reality too, are full of paradoxes. Fascinating. Cheryl BTW, Thanks for the site you sent earlier. It was fun. And in this Market, I can use a laugh.webho.com But no, I won't order that poster top of Bill's face for my coffee table. I see his face often enough, in the front row, when I watch a Mariners or Sonics game on TV. <GGgggg>
