jhg, does that exempt felines? Value added depends on the context. In the first one you described it implies that the individual hired is worth more to the organization than the organization is paying for him. In the computer and peripherals business you will come across the value added resellers or VARs for short. These are organizations that sell additional products of their own manufacture or design that works with the hardware they are reselling. For example, a company may sell POS software (point of sale for the acronymically challenged) with registers and computers of another company's manufacture. In the context of the Dell example, value added is a more generic economic term referring to the economic value generated when the bits and pieces of the computer are assembled and distributed. That is, it has additional economic value over and above the value of its components. Therefore, simply moving a good from its point of manufacture to its point of use or employment adds value. I think what Michelle was driving at was that the efficiencies inherent in Dell's infrastructure made the company more profitable than its competitors. I would not use the phrase in this context, but maybe it is legitimate. TTFN, CTC
