Herb, that article refers to a PCI-X bus which is an updated version of the PCI bus. Intel thread has more than you really want to know about it. Perceived to be a way for those PC vendors to get an edge on the likes of Dell.

Where do you get info that Intel 1 Ghz chips are begin delayed beyond current roadmap?? Just to keep things in perspective, Intel's position on copper is that it isn't necessary to push the technology at the present time. Intel plans to introduce copper later when it has more potential benefit. One thing to note is that in the desktop arena, Intel chips still run at a higher Mhz than PPC chips will even with copper. While there is a heat problem it doesn't appear critical in desktop design and Intel will be moving on into the 500-600 Mhz rating by mid 1999. As you note the real benefit of copper is in portables and it appears clear that here copper will allow the PPC world to advance faster than the PC world for a while.

Lastly, IBM's projected growth last I heard was being driven more by it services side than hardware. Lastly, in it's hardware you have the Xeon workstation line. Where do you come up with PPCs gaping advantage over Xeon?? Why would you think PPC has anything but minor impact on IBM growth thus far?? Rich
