Big, the next big exciting thing that we as consumers are going to see is Voice over IP. Just as you dial into an ISP for modem/internet connection.....soon ISP's will offer voice service. You will be able to call the ISP with your phone...the ISP will convert your voice to IP and send it across the internet like data.

The advancement in DSP technology, compression and the ability for routers to deliver a guarantee quality of service across the internet is going to make the current global phone system obsolete early in the next century.

We should start seeing this type of service being offered this year and really catching on in 1999 and 2000.

As soon as xDSL technology is readily available....new applications will likely require more CPU....leading to a churn in the industry.

Again, I don't expect this to impact the semi industry anytime soon.
