And don't forget the effect on Japan of the return of Godzilla. We will soon see whether the rumour is nothing more. They don't seem too taken with the whole idea on Kitco either.

Active unwinding of yen short positions by U.S. hedge funds pushed the dollar down as low as 131.45 yen in Tokyo on Monday, compared with 133.51/61 yen in New York late on Friday.

Message 5687604

Maybe they bought gold before unwinding? And will soon sell.

Hutch - please explain - "if fed lowers (interest rates presumably) so will gold" Surely the opposite will happen - if fed lowers rates dollar will fall and gold (priced in dollars) will rise.

Also explain comment that Yen overvalued, ditto gold. Something seems a bit out of whack there? The hedge play in Yen is mirrored by a similar overhang in gold - much potential buying power there too.

Strange that this string started in 1996 has so few postings?

Agree with you that the source of rumour about Barrick has own agenda, and the event is unlikely. E
