Dave,
I'm glad to see you have not lost your ability to perceive the
reality of a situation. Your assessment of the industry totally
agrees with mine. New technology is wonderful but it won't necessarily
usher in demand overnight. The chip industry doesn't shift gears
very quickly, the costs involved require revenues and engineering
time to make new technologies production worthy. Right now survival
is the name of the game, just trying to outlast the competition while
attempting to retain some semblence of profitability in an oversupply/
over capacity situation. Growth/expansion is unlikely until demand
again outpaces supply, however, new innovative chip products/capabilities open new markets and the potential of more revenues. Chip companies must look to future products to change the
current dilemma, but it will take some time to implement.
