GBH..I'll take a hard line approach and say here that I entirely disagree with what you are saying and suggest that investors cease and desist all activity that attempts to avoid the short sales rules by shorting in accounts under different names but control.

Do you have trading authority over the other account? Limited Power of attorney? Do you trade the same stocks, in concert? If so, you might be considered controlling. Also, ultimately, is it worth it to possibly expose yourself to being the test case for the SEC? Do you need a criminal record for an extra 1/16 or 1/8?
Personally, anyone that considers trying to bend rules is asking for trouble....bending something too far eventually breaks it and then there's no way out.

I disagree with your position entirely.
