Hi Steve, I think I'm guilty as charged, since I did post that reference somewhere, although I can't put my finger on where or when. I tend to be moved, influenced by such writings, they're fun to read, and in may ways accurate, IMO, as to where we are headed. Gilder's writings fall into this category too, always like to read what he has to say, ever since reading his Fiber Sphere piece back in '92. But a funny thing happens when I visit clients' locations and they tell me about their problems of the moment, like getting a due date for a new line installation between NY and Rochester, for example. If I refrain from thinking of that problem, and only think in terms of opportunities , I'd be flat out on my butt in the street along with my entire staff at that account. The fact is that it took about six months to get a T3 line in between these points, after much thumb screw tightening and swearing, and it still didn't come up with the right options. And this, in a world of plenty of bandwidth. Not all of our daily experiences are like that, fortunately, as I am quite fortunate to be involved with some pretty fabulous stuff nowadays, and I do tend to lean over the future's edge, at times. But there's a real world out there that is still very hostile to would-be Internet exploiters who work in the trenches (as opposed to cyber daydreamers who write what they dream about, and then get paid for it... hey, it's great work if you can get it...right?), once they leave the safety of their V.90 modems and standalone networked PCs. Now that you've reminded me of this split personality trait of mine, let me go back and read it again, and see if I can formulate yet another opinion. <grin> Later, and the best all, Frank C.
