Actually, it's illegal to lie to a federal official in the performance of her duty. Not just lying under oath -- lying period. It's a felony. Most people don't know that. But if you lie to an IRS agent, and FBI agent, or even a Park Ranger, you have committed a felony. Keep that in mind the next time you're at a federal park and the ranger comes by and asks whether you've got any beer in your tent!
