That actually was the point of my original post, that in the past we might not have felt as comfortable with earnings estimates, and so we would rely on the published historical performance numbers to calculate P/E. But now the margin of error is (might be) lower for these projections, and we should use the forward looking numbers, even normalized to a cat's meow.
