Steven,

Yes, developing good writing skills is an in"tense" pursuit.

Have you ever read any of G.K. Chesterton's works? I love his "Father Brown" detective stories. His descriptions are evocative and other-worldy; and his insights are like "lightning out of a clear sky."

Whenever I attempt to write, I find the same results as one who imitates the casual yet masterful efforts of a figure-skater at a local rink. You think, "I can do that. It looks so easy when he does that." So, you try -- then, bam! You read what you've written, then: "Edit, delete."

By the way, in writing that, I was reminded of the commonly used phrase: "I was thinking to myself." Whom else can we think to? But, we often say it!
