What's missing from the iMac...SCSI, PCI, ADB, Serial Port, Floppy.
What's cutback...flimsy CD-ROM (cheaper), low-end ATI graphics chip

Now don't take me wrong, because Apple has trimmed this machine to the bone and still come up with a screamer. To clarify my original point, I believe that the iMac is VERY cheap to produce, and it is reflected in some obvious ways, such as the spring loaded CD-ROM instead of a costlier powered CD-ROM. This machine was engineered to be the cheapest machine Apple has ever manufactured. (grain of salt added)

What has created the buzz surrounding the iMac? The CASE! Jonathan Ives deserves a big raise! Besides USB, there is nothing different about the hardware. And you can't call USB revolutionary! :) In the case of the iMac, beauty is only skin deep. Jobs is having it all...competing for commodity sub-$1000 pc buyers without a commodity margin.

In the end however, it's just my humble opinion. We'll all know what's up when the Q4 margin numbers come out.

what exactly is missing from the iMac
that most PC's offer?

A heatsink you could use for toasting marshmallows.
