Update on PE's, post-"correction"

Perhaps a month ago, I wrote that AAPL's forward-looking PE fell in line with those of PC boxmakers Compaq and Gateway, ranging from 20.50-21.50

Now, a month later, the same holds true. In fact, while AAPL held the lower of the three numbers in the previous tally, AAPL's PE is now slightly HIGHER than CPQ or GTW.

CPQ 16.77
GTW 17.07
AAPL 17.47

Again, all three are in a tight range, suggesting that the future fate of AAPL is a good part in the hands of the overall PC market.

Out of curiosity, I also checked out Intel's forward looking PE. I remember someone mentioned awhile ago about Intel's supposedly low PE.

It turns out the PC boxmakers are trading at a discount to Intel, which as of Friday is

21.55 times earnings on a forward-looking basis. Wow. Now who would you choose to invest in, Intel with a higher PE and a developing reputation for downside earnings surprises or AAPL with the lower PE and reputation for upside surprises?

I'll have to sleep on that one,

Andrew
