From WSJ article dated August 31, 1998:

"Some investors who still think of themselves as bulls have nevertheless wound up selling some stocks.

'I didn't sell anything,' says Dirk Ault who loads cargo into Boeing 747s for an airline in California. Well, except for those small stocks. Mr. Ault explains that he uses a 'stop loss' system that automatically sells a stock if the price falls to a specified level That has forced him out of almost all of the small stocks this year. He figures that 40% of his money he has set aside for stocks is sitting in cash.

What will he do now? He follows a radio show hosted by newsletter writer Bob Brinker. On Saturday, he says, Mr. Brinker reassured listeners that, with inflation low and and economic growth continuing, the market's drop is a buying opportunity. Trouble is, he says, Mr. Brinker also indicated that it was too soon to buy small stocks. Mr. Ault says he may buy some stock next week - or maybe not. 'I don't want to catch a falling knife,' he says."
