Dear Inquiring Mind.. effects of the dreaded margin call! Margins calls on margined options generally must be settled by 12:01 the following day. Calls on margined stock to bring deposits up to maintenance margin requirement levels I've found varies from 3 to 5 days. It depends on the broker's knowledge of your account, what other assets you have that they can shuffle, and how severe the margin trespass is (which is usually the most critical factor). If you are 100% margined on a 50. dollar stock that's dropped to 20 bucks, you pay very quickly or they liquidate. If the stock dipped to 45. triggered the margin call, then runs back over 52 you have wiggle room. Here's a class site with a problem some might be facing.. finance.wat.ch

donald-- thats part of the reason the internet stocks sold off so badly. normally you have three days for a margin call, and if memory serves even if the value of your holdings increases you still have to put in new equity. of course, it has been more than 2 years since i last had a margin call (i was just getting started so give me a break<G>) so i could be wrong, or things could have changed. just have to wait and see what happens. globex last night was pretty interesting. i hope i get to unload some long positions tuesday. i am so bored right now. i hate these three day holidays because monday always feels like sunday, and i am tired of drinking and fun<G>. i wanna work...or at least my liver is hoping i do soon<G>. good luck to all, trey
