Who benefits?

The nature of this question is similar to the old adage of
"watch where the money goes" when trying to understand a
financial scam.

When an individual posts on SI they have a purpose, nominally
to exchange information. When an individual generates hundreds
of posts possessing little or no substance, but rather consisting
of the malignment of others and denigration of their comments and
opinions, one should rightly attempt to determine the motive.

Hypothesis: Were one the manager of a hedge fund with large
short positions in gold/gold stocks it would be very much in
your interests to interrupt and confuse the exchange of information
and to cast doubt among investors. Even if only moderately successful
it would perhaps provide some additional time with which to unwind
a large losing position and lessen the loss.

Shills are cheap.

Just some thoughts from a lurker.
